Action: Call your elected representatives, June 21, 2003

Reminder: Tomorrow is the day!

The following call to action was received by e-mail:

What is ONE VOICE? A unique coalition of women's organizations, which represents a broad spectrum of Jewish political and religious views. We stand in solidarity with the State of Israel and for a strong and enduring US-Israel relationship. We support America and Israel in the fight against terror and commit to fighting the scourges of anti-Semitism, bigotry and racism wherever it exists.

Participating Coalition Members: AMIT; Hadassah, The Women's Zionist Organization of America, Inc.; Jewish Women International; JOFA, The Jewish Orthodox Feminist Alliance; NA'AMAT USA; National Council of Jewish Women; Women of Reform Judaism; Women's American ORT; Women's Branch of the Orthodox Union.

How can you add YOUR voice?

On Monday, June 21st, we ask you to Take Five and Take to the Phones. Five minutes, that is, to call your elected officials to ask for their support in ombating anti-Semitism. These are critical times for Israel and the Jewish people. We cannot afford to be complacent. In the words of Hillel, "If I am not for myself who am I? And when I am [only] for myself what am I? If not now, when?"

Call your Senators and your Representative at 202-224-3121 or you can find
their direct line at or

Please use (or paraphrase) the following message.

"Hello. This is (your name) I am a constituent of the Senator (Congressman/woman) calling from (your city, state). (If applicable). I would like to thank the Senator (Congressman/woman) for his/her past support of Israel.

I am calling now to express my concern about the increase in anti-Semitic acts around the world and in the USA. Today's anti-Semitism takes two forms: the "old" anti-Semitism is epitomized by Nazi Germany and finds echoes in attacks on individual Jews, the vandalism of synagogues and the desecration of Jewish cemeteries. The "new" form wears the guise of anti-Zionism and questions the legitimacy of Israel as a homeland for the Jewish people and its right to provide for the security of all its citizens.

I would like to urge the establishment of an office within the State Department to monitor, examine and fight instances of anti-Semitism worldwide and then make an annual report on its findings and activities.

I also urge the Senator (Congressman/woman) to encourage the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE)* to appoint a high level envoy to ensure sustained attention with respect to fulfilling OSCE commitments from the Berlin Declaration on the reporting of anti-Semitic crimes.

Today, the United Nations is holding a seminar on anti-Semitism. In that regard, I would like to see the Senator (Congressman/woman) encourage President Bush to call upon the government of the Federal Republic of Germany, as the host of the OSCE conference, to introduce a measure at the United Nations condemning anti-Semitism.

Thank you and I look forward to being in touch with this office in the future."
