Israelis calmy preparing for war

Nothing here not already know but a good example of how Israel, after so many wars and struggles simply to exist goes about the next big threat
AMAT GAN, Israel -- When he goes shopping these days, Eli Ben-Ze'ev, like many Israelis, thinks not only about what food to buy for dinner but about what he needs to stock up on in case of a U.S.-led war with Iraq.

His family's grocery list now includes bottled water, crackers and canned goods, as well as batteries for flashlights and plastic sheeting to seal windows and rooms -- all recommended by the Israeli government in case citizens face chemical or biological weapons attacks.

Despite the fact that Israeli military leaders appeared on television this week declaring that a U.S. war against Saddam Hussein is a certainty -- they even predicted start dates, ranging from Feb. 25 to March 17 -- there has been little sign of panic among Israelis.

The reason appears to be a combination of long-term government planning and savvy public relations by the military, which has repeatedly assured Israelis that they have nothing to fear. [more]
