The IAF retaliates after Hezbollah attacks Shebaa Farms.
RASHAYA, Lebanon, Jan 21 (AFP) - Israeli warplanes carried out a raid on south Lebanon following an attack by the Shiite militia Hezbollah on Israeli positions in a disputed border area Tuesday, Lebanese police said.

Fighter-bombers fired four missiles in two overflights of an area to the west of Kfarshuba village, they said.

Earlier, some 15 mortar bombs and 107 mm Katyusha rockets were fired at two neighbouring Israeli positions at Roweissit al Aalam and Tallet Sammaqa, opposite Kfarshuba, the police said.

A spokesman for Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon termed the rocket attack as a "serious development".

Hezbollah's armed wing, the Islamic Resistance, said Roweissit al-Aalam was attacked after a group of Israeli soldiers left their outpost. "The target took a direct hit," it said in a statement.

This is the first Hizbollah attack since August.
