"Three years ago January 27 was chosen as the UK's annual Holocaust Memorial Day. This date marks the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp.
Edinburgh, capital of Scotland, is the host city for the 2003 UK commemorative event, which is due to be attended by senior Scottish Parliament and UK government ministers. Many of the other guests will be local young people. It is estimated that at least 1.5 million children were murdered by the Nazi regime between 1933 and 1945 and the theme for 2003 is 'Children and the Holocaust'."
